The Vice President/Head of Third-Party Accounting position is a critical position responsible for leading the accounting department for Gables’ third-party property management portfolio.  The 15-person department is being relocated from Boca Raton to Atlanta in order to centralize Gables’ accounting team in Atlanta.  The third-party property management portfolio is currently comprised of approximately 50 properties with 15,000 units owned by 20 clients.  Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this is a hands-on management/leadership position based at the company’s Atlanta office with excellent exposure to the Gables’ management team as well as external clients.

Financial Reporting Responsibilities

  • Manage the financial reporting process for the third-party property portfolio owned by various institutional clients, developers and private funds. Includes oversight of clients’ multiple reporting requirements, policy compliance, portfolio reporting, and the use of various accounting systems.
  • Coordinate and oversee dual reporting for multiple owners, data uploads and validation to client portals, multiple software permissions/assignments, and the integration and preparation of client specific reporting packages for the third- party residential and retail portfolio.
  • Interface with client asset managers and accounting groups on all accounting-related matters such as cash forecasts, reserves, reporting valuation requests and performance tracking.
  • Coordinate external and internal client audits and annual internal control questionnaires. Develop internal controls to ensure compliance.
  • Manage debt compliance reporting, reserve analysis, and other lender requests.
  • Manage/schedule workflow of accounting team to ensure accuracy and timeliness of reporting and that client deadlines are met. 
  • Manage production of budget and reforecasts for third-party properties in clients’ formats, Gables management fee income, and accounting department costs.
  • Cash management and oversight of treasury functions for multiple banks as required by clients. Includes administration of online banking, opening accounts, banking compliance controls and the review/release of wires, EFTs, and checks exceeding policy thresholds.
  • Monitor and/or prepare necessary tax filings to ensure timely reporting. This includes interacting with clients and their tax consultants on valuations, estimates, and appeals.


Leadership and Management Responsibilities

  • This person will lead and manage the department, and will also communicate and collaborate with the CFO and other key executives on a regular basis.
  • Build, develop, mentor a best-in-class team in the Atlanta office.
  • Responsible for department productivity and staffing including recruiting and assignment of duties/workloads. Provide coaching and evaluation feedback to strengthen associate performance.
  • Provide training and education opportunities to departmental associates for their continued professional growth and development.
  • Establish bonus goals with associates that ensure top performance for each individual and the entire department.


Process Improvement Responsibilities

  • Lead efficiency initiatives for the department.
  • Coordinate with the IT team on Gables and client accounting system upgrades and changes.


New Business and Disposition Responsibilities

  • Work closely and collaborate with VP of National Client Services in business development efforts. Make verbal and written presentations as requested
  • Be opportunistic to potential new business/fee income initiatives with existing and potential new clients.
  • Meet with new clients and prospects related to financial reporting requirements
  • Work with the VP of Business Development in review of management and loan subordination agreements.
  • Oversee the financial process for community turns including coordination between owners and direction in purchase/sale agreements for pro-rations, timing, and reports along with coordination with the IT and operations teams for a smooth transition.
  • Accountable for cash holdback, sale entries, subsequent true-ups, and finalizing books/records.



  • BS/BA in Accounting or other relevant major. CPA certification preferred.


Professional Experience

  • Experience in a controllership or financial reporting position 
  • Public accounting experience preferred
  • Supervisory experience with multiple team members
  • Oversight of reporting to third-party clients and/or JV partners
  • Minimum of 10 years of meaningful, relevant real estate experience
  • Multifamily industry knowledge/experience preferred
  • Retail industry knowledge/experience preferred
  • Yardi knowledge preferred
  • Knowledge of other real estate software helpful



  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to the use of various accounting software
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Strong financial reporting skills and knowledge of GAAP
  • Demonstrated analytical skills, financial acumen, proven ability to work in a detail-oriented environment, strong problem solving and quantitative abilities  
  • Proven ability to recruit, train, lead and motivate a team of 10+ associates
  • Ability to understand accounting related policies and procedures
  • Ability to read and write fluently in the English language
  • Exceptional communication skills with demonstrated ability to present concepts both verbally and in writing in a coherent manner
  • Proven organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize effectively
